Registered Psychologist
Dr. Jon K Amundson was registered as the 579th psychologist in the province.
He has taught at the university and college level, trained and supervised a lot of younger psychologists over the years; consulted on practice and ethics with hundreds, offered expert opinions to the Alberta Courts over 500 times, provided over 40k hours of clinical service and guided both his professional Association and the College licensing body: twice named psychologist of the year in Alberta. He has written and published widely; including articles in The Alberta Fishing Guide.
In 2026, Dr. Amundson was selected as the recipient of the Pettifor Lifetime Achievement Award by the Psychologists’ Association of Alberta (PAA), in recognition of outstanding contributions, leadership, and lasting impact on the profession of psychology.
Health psychology and the role of the behavioural health consultant are central to his work at APC. Biological health is a foundation upon which to build well-being and personal contentment; to be both physically healthy and happy.
On a more personal level, he tries to practice what he preaches; a senior/elder athlete with hundreds of kilometers of cross-country ski racing as a sponsored athlete and several times a World Champion in Polynesian canoe racing. Jon always has one or two shelter dogs in residence with him-currently Issabella, a 140 lbs. Cane Corso/Mastiff mix-and produces a podcast entitled “Some ‘thinks’ only a psychologist can believe!" He says he is lucky because he “never really worked a day in his life!” in his joy as a psychologist.
